Family and Youth Ministry

Our Direction:

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

One of our passions here at the North MacArthur church of Christ is to train families to raise strong, faithful, evangelistic youth. We firmly believe this must be achieved by providing resources and guidance to our fathers and mothers so they become the youth ministers in the lives of our young people. When we direct our parents to be Christ-focused in the home we, in turn, build a great church! Listed below are the activities and resources our families are engaged in to raise Christian leaders, teachers, evangelists, deacons, elders, servants and future preachers in the church of our Lord.

Family Activities:

Annual Spring Family Retreat
Each spring our families love to meet at a camp facility in Oklahoma to study God's word, sing, play and relax together. Being together in nature brings us closer to God and each other.

Bi-Annual Ski Trip
Every other year during spring break our families have an opportunity to go to Colorado to ski, fellowship and unwind. The date this year is March 15-20, 2008.

Family Fun Nights
During the summer our families enjoygetting together on a Sunday night and playing games and fellowshipping while the children play on inflatables.

Redhawks Family Night

Area-wide Summer Summit in Dallas, TX
Each summer our families go to Six Flags Over Texas and a Texas Rangers baseball game.

Youth Activities:

Mission Trips
This is one of the most fulfilling trips we go on.  Nothing fills our cup faster than going to Toluca, Mexico or a small town in Oklahoma to serve people.  For the summer of 2005 we had a group of young people go to Ft. Cobb, OK to teach a Vacation Bible School, sing at a nursing home and paint two houses.  What a blessing it was to let our lights shine in this manner while building strong relationships with the local members!

Area-Wide Teen Gatherings and Retreats
Every week during the summer and every month during the school year our teens travel to worship with various churches in the metro and south central Oklahoma.   Each year either during the fall or winter the AWTG groups meet at a camp facility for a much needed retreat.  These are valuable activities that unite young Christians for a lifetime.  This year’s AWTG Fall Retreat will be in October.

Winter Quest
In January we join other youth groups from Texas and Oklahoma at Pettijohn Springs Christian Camp for a 3-day retreat.  This retreat comes at a time when young people need to be challenged and encouraged to start the year off right.  Winter Quest is always in January on Martin Luther King weekend.

Vacation Bible School
The North Mac teens are very active in the set up and participation of our major production of vacation Bible school.  VBS is a great learning tool for teaching our teens to teach and serve children.  This year’s VBS is June 3-6, 2008.

Focus Week
Summer camp is always a highlight of the summer as the youth learn and grow in a wonderful Christian atmosphere.   Focus Week is held at Quartz Mountain Christian Camp in Lone Wolf, OK.  This awesome camp combines solid Bible teaching with Christian fellowship and fun.  Focus Week 2008 is June 8-13.

Monthly Home Devotionals

Progressive Dinners

Senior Banquet

New Year’s Eve Lock-In
Each New Year’s Eve the North Mac families and teens are invited to the gym to play games, watch movies, jump on inflatables, and bring in the New Year with a devotional.  The teens stay all night and enjoy a pancake breakfast at 5:00 AM.

Training Activites and Resources

Tuesday Night Bible Study (TBS)
Every other Tuesday night during the school year the teens meet in the Youth Room for an in-depth study of God's Word. Some of the subjects we study include: How Did We Get the Bible? Difficult Issues, Leadership, and Personal Evangelism.

Family Home Bible Studies
These workbooks are one of the most valuable resources we use here at North MacArthur. We encourage our fathers and mothers to set one night a week aside to have a family night in which they sit down together, study God's word, and discuss what's happening in each others lives. We are striving to get back to God's plan for raising families. See Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

Family Devotionals
Our families meet together on occasion for a time of eating, singing, and a devotional from God's Word taught by one of our Dads from North Mac.

Leadership Training for Christ (LTC)
Every other year our families will be involved in leadership training for our youth. This wonderful event takes place at the convention center in Tulsa, OK. Our next participation we be April 10-11, 2009.

Oklahoma City Preacher Training Camp (OKC PTC)
The North MacArthur church will be hosting a preacher training camp at the church building each summer for young men going into 10th grade through graduated college age. We have solid, dynamic preachers from all over the brotherhood coming to preach and train our young men to have a passion for preaching. The date this summer will be July 27 - August 1, 2008.

Summer Internship Program
For three months during the summer a junior or senior young man from the North MacArthur youth group will serve as the summer youth intern for grades 3rd - 5th. He teaches class, organizes devotionals and activities and assists the family and youth minister. This program provides great opportunity to develop more spiritual leaders in the Lord's body. This program will begin on June 1 through the second week of August.

Bible Classes
The North MacArthur church strives to provide strong, Biblical classes for our youth and families to equip them to love, serve and teach the lost.
